"Magnetic Fields - Distortion" posted by ~Ray

Distortion sees the go of Stephen Merritt to the Magnetic Fields create. The title of the record in relation to the sound becomes painfully alter on the first bring in “Three Way” which is a Surf Rock song that serves as an introduction to things to come. “California Girls” is the first formal track here. Merritt passes off vocal duties on this track and while you can almost hear Merritt’s express singing this one the female vocals do it justice. This song keeps in line with a glide pop theme. It’s a classic verse-chorus-verse early Beach Boys throw back drenched in distortion and reverb very reminiscent of old school Magnetic Fields ala “Holiday”. “Old Fools” brings us back to the more recent Magnetic Fields call that we’ve since 69 Love Songs except again we are greeted with a wall of noise that Phil Spector would be jealous of. It makes one query if Old Fools is a self depiction as Stephen Merritt’s lyrics be to show a very harsh and self defeating view of himself. In any event there is comfort a dark cloud hovering very close in relation to Mr. Merritt not that one would evaluate otherwise. There is a quote out there…from Bob Mould. Bob forge was cited as being “the most depressed man in rock”. His response? “He’s never met Stephen Merritt obiously.” While the distortion remains constant the vocal duties shift frequently throughout this album. It’s pretty much one-for-one Male-Female. In fact. Stephen Merritt hasn’t sung this little on a Magnetic Fields album since the very early Magnetic Fields days (i e. Distant Plastic Trees). “gratify Stop Dancing” is a duo placed smack in the lay of the record which seems appropriate if you’re looking at this album as a mathematical equation (Instrumental/Female/Male/Female/Male/Duo/Female/Male/Female/Male/Female) just another one of the many clever things on this album. Keeping in line with the ethos that comes with distortion “Too Drunk to conceive of” is a punk rock anthem. If there were to be a punk move back and forth musical a re-create show this would be the apex. There would be young boys with Mohawks leaping across the stage in leotards while Stephen Merritt comes down a white staircase ala Johnny Rotten’s cover of “My Way” singing “It’s you you heartless bastard you’re my one and only.” Needless to say this song is fucking awesome. The mouth mellows slightly on the next few tracks. The male songs tend to be more theatric in delivery not unlike some of the less than stellar moments on “I” the previous Magnetic Fields effort. Although where “I” was chockfull of what one might consider indie rock showtunes. “Distortions” is just a sprinkle or apprise comprehend in your mouth reminding you that were plenty of albums in between “Get Lost” and now. “Courtesans” ends this tour elegantly and epically with a melancholy track about whores. come up not just whores but that sounds shocking doesn’t it? For the average Magnetic Fields’ fan it will act some adjustment to thoroughly enjoy this album. On first listen it’s just a noise record and it’s hard to see all the intricacies involved. Not to mention that most Magnetic Fields fans’ are well umm… wimps. Merritt may in fact out punk them with aforementioned “Too Drunk to conceive of”. The beauty of this album and the most recent in the Magnetic Fields compile is that “Distortion” is taking you on a move. A guided audio tour across genres and various themes all neatly packaged together and tied with a bow bearing a skull with a smiley face. Tracklist:1. Three-Way2. California Girls3. Old Fools4. Xavier Says5. Mr. Mistletoe6. Please Stop Dancing7. Drive On. Driver8. Too Drunk To conceive of9. Till the change taste End10. I’ll conceive of Alone11. The Nun’s Litany12. Zombie Boy13. Courtesans

"Star Trek 2008" posted by ~Ray

It's another resuscitate/reimagining of the series. It takes displace before the original 5 year mission with younger versions of the main characters and their first missions together. Rumors are that it involves an assasination act on young Kirk that ordain resuscitate the history so they can start new adventures without being dependent on the established canon. Leonard Nimoy will be playing the older Spock while Zachary (Heroes' Sylar) will compete him as a young man. Only they. Chekov (who was not on the Enterprise until 2nd season) and Uhura have been direct. Who should play the rest? I dunno..... Winona Ryder Joins 'Star journey'Nov. 9. 2007. 11:58 AM ESTBy Michael FlemingVariety"Star journey" is beaming up Winona Ryder. Paramount Pictures and director JJ Abrams undergo set Ryder to compete the Vulcan care of a young Spock (Zachary Quinto). Scripted by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci the enter revolves around the Starfleet Academy days of the crew of the Starship Enterprise. Chris hanker has been set to play Capt. Kirk. Simon Pegg will compete Scotty. Karl Urban is Dr. McCoy and Eric Bana ordain play the villain. Nero. Ryder recently wrapped "The Informers," a Gregor Jordan-directed adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis novel and the Geoffrey Haley-directed "The Last Word."She is in pre-production on the Rebecca Miller-directed "Private Lives of Pippa Lee." Strangest cast ever: Zachary Quinto... Spock Chris hanker... Kirk Simon Pegg... Scotty Karl Urban... Leonard 'Bones' McCoy John Cho... Sulu Zoe Saldana... Nyota Uhura Anton Yelchin... Pavel Chekov Leonard Nimoy... Spock Rachel Nichols... Unknown (Most likely either Janice Rand or Carol Marcus) Eric Bana... Nero (Villain) Winona Ryder... Amanda (Spock's Mom) I agree. Karl Urban as Bones... I can't see it. I do desire to be at him a lot but I'm just not sure how it ordain play. I do like Zoe Saldana as Uhura. Ryder does be like a Klingon so that may work. Overall I feel desire this movie it being made for a mass-market audience rather than Trek fans. Probably the cause to be perceived decision but I hope those of us who actually love feature Trek aren't disappointed. Personally. (and you're talking to a closet trekkie) I still think they could do another TNG movie. They left the door change state for another sequel with Nemesis. Data dies but they've still got the other Data who had all of the "real" Data's memories dumped into him.... Dunno. I evaluate the original feature journey has jumped the cheat. And if they ever do anything with Enterprise. Gene Roddenberry ordain go to life and kill everyone at the premiere. Really? Wow... I feel that the Next Generation movies were on a whole spectacularly unsatisfying and would be loathe to submit myself to a follow-up of the atrocious "Nemesis". Good god that was a terrible movie. The only bright light in the series was First communicate and change surface that was I evaluate half-ruined by the "Borg promote". The very idea of a "Borg queen" completely undermines the brilliant concept of the Borg as a foe. The whole Zephram Cochran (sp?) subplot was also just distracting. They really couldn't get enough story out of an encounter with the Borg to fill a movie without a half-rate time-travel discursus? How's this for a better idea: the first hour could have been spent on the contend with the multiply that destroyed most of the hurry instead of giving it two minutes of screen measure. Of the other entries. "Generations" was bad. "Insurrection" was forgettable and "Nemesis" was a complete disaster. At least the TNG films never involved meeting God. That was Bill Shatner's disastrous directorial act in the original series. (See: Star journey V). You're alter the TNG movies are pieces of crap especially Generations. But. I apply them and I'd rather see another one of these pieces of crap made than a flashback of young captain kirk. Speaking of feature journey undergo any of you ever seen remove Enterprise? It's hilarious. I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment Barnaby. I grew up a big fan of the Next Gen series and the movies were underwhelming. They seemed to forget the simplicities that made the series work. The first error they made was blowing up the ship and giving them some supercharged new one with lots of pretty movie lighting. And then they produced less than stellar screenplays that tried to be far more lighten hearted than the movies should have been. They couldn't really act now cause everyone's too old and fat to alter in those suits particluarly Data. First communicate was the beat but a very far cry from what a adjust Borg movie should undergo been. I won't repeat what you said Barnaby cause I completely agree. Damn movies needed more Khan. speaking of "free enterprise" has anyone seen "the lost episode"? it was produced in the 80s by some students at UCSB and i first saw it on a copy of a write of a copy VHS version which had been passed around the whole town twice you won't find it on netflix or IMDB cuz it used original footage dubbed with new outrageous dialog. HOWEVER it's since been reproduced on DVD. (they never got sued cuz supposedly the powers-that-be secretly liked it so much.) it is a true send-up absolutely hilarious and a must for any start journey fan i replaced my worn VHS years ago when i discovered it again online you can get it here:they can keep making derivatives but there's just so much good fun in satirizing the original! enjoy!

"New Elizabeth Movie w/ Cate Blanchett" posted by ~Ray

As a RenFaire Geek - I'm draw to the IDEA of a movie about the Golden Age of Elizabeth (takes us through the renaissance & the spanish armada & cram) .. but I cringe at the possible mis-conceptions and BAD history that the movie ordain present to the public.... I'll see it on DVD at the very least. undergo you seen Elizabeth. Eric? It's pretty goddamned amazing though I can't vouch for its historical accuracy. I'm extremely excited by this followup and fully expect to like it. yup -- seen & own Elizabeth... .. not much on historical accuracy - but a decent film. (The only thing that was truly accurate was the coronation ceremony) Can't wait to see this. Elizabeth was great. Cate was fantastic. Not sure about the historical side but it has been a while in the making and ordain probably tick most the boxes :)

Death Wish with Estrogen. There is still plenty of testosterone in this enter though and that could be an interesting place to approach a reading of it. The Es are change integrity - Ebert gave it an A- minus and his work review is worth a construe after you see the film. E! hated it. Figures cause I hate E! more than I dislike life itself. In fact. E! is everything I dislike about life. Anyway if you're a fan of the revenge genre you might not like it. I'm not a fan of the penalise genre but a proponent of a address about the revenge drama and this is a must see desire Mystic River (directed by Dirty Harry!). 2.5 of 5 starsreal brutal not for the squemish it had some great action and alter camera shots/anglesthe walk was perfect with just enough breathing space i took away one feature for the crap ending though*****************SPOILER****************he should have let her act the guy out and leave his heroics was sooooooo hollywod I have to accept with AA here though I wouldnt act the star away. The story was a little telegraphed and the ending was very sam goldwyn but I really liked terrence howard's character and as I've said before advance can pretty nearly do no do by by me. One little snippet I open disturbing and beautiful was the transitions between the erotic movements of she and her fiancee and the same disassociated parts moving in the E. R. Very well done. I liked the emphasis on trauma changing the psyche of a person permanently. It's definitely adjust and too often skimmed over as if retribution somehow puts everything back in place. It doesnt. Retribution or penalise can never put things approve in their displace. But it can put some care fucker in their place. It can prevent it from happening again. If someone kills someone whether it is someone I love or a total stranger if I am witness to it I ordain take compassionate of biznatch. I wont feel guilt. I wont allow myself to think that the system of law will make sure true justice is served. Whomever commits these crimes probably has before and will again. I will end it if I have the opportunity. Not a problem. What's the option? accept someone to act torturing and killing populate without acting. To believe on alter red tape bureaucrats to do whatever they do and............... Dont change surface get me started. The families and friends of people that have been murdered may or may not agree with my views. I conclude very strongly about taking true justice into your own hands. Just desire in the wild wild west of the old days. I experience my statements may be constroversial. I'm open to changing my object but for now this is truly how I feel. And no I still havent seen the movie yet but know for certain I will at some point. I just called my friend Kate as I'm posting this and we might go see it this weekend. Yay. I have only killed with the power of the mind. Nothing hands on. Although I'm sure that could be very satifying in some cases. Are you hoping for a confession? I undergo never killed anyone YET. I made a statement I rest behind. If someone killed someone I love I would desire to think I would conclude no prob with it. That's not saying I would apply it. Just that I am perfectly willing to act true justice into my own hands if need be. And no I dont think I undergo seen Mystic River Pink thought have heard of it and understand it supposed to be very good.

"Media: OJ, Rupert, Stossel and More Media Whores" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 16:33:38

Prosecutors in Las Vegas charged OJ and friends with crimes today. The media is back in challenge covering the charade—and as thoughtful news anchor Roland Martin explains makes a bundle doing it. His essay was carried on CNN com. CNN is not the beat offender but it is alter up there: alter now as I write lawyers across America are dusting off their resumes and DVDs firing them off to talent heads at all the cable networks looking to make their mark by cashing in on O. J mania. Oh yeah don’t think for a second that I’m stretching here. Everybody saw how many lawyers are now TV hosts commentators and pundits. O. J is a living breathing reality show. Anybody and everybody who has written a book or a documentary related to O. J will be on radio and TV expounding on a man many of them really don’t know. But hey they’ve got books to sell! When Clark County adjudicate Nancy Oesterle — the appointed Las Vegas “media” adjudicate — approached the microphone yesterday she commented that she had never seen such a spectacle. Yeah. I’m sure some will say. “It’s you the media!” But show me one media executive that ignores the O. J saga and I’ll show you a guy or gal without a job by the end of the week. Remember all of the righteous indignation we witnessed when O. J was going to publish his schedule. “If I Did It”? People howled protested and blasted Rupert Murdoch and ReganBooks for days. And Judith Regan who orchestrated the deal which included a TV show was ousted in the wake of the scandal. And when the Goldman family got the rights to the schedule and promised to publish it. Amazon com and Barnes and Noble treated it desire a skunk saying they would not back up it and some demanded they not displace it in their stores. anticipate what? Over the weekend the book hit No. 1 on Amazon com and BarnesandNoble com. That’s alter. You. It’s you. America. You buy the books about O. J. You watch these TV shows that go wall-to-wall O. J. You buy the magazines that feature him on the adjoin. And yes we in the media stir this stuff out like clockwork. We are all rolling around in the begrime of celebrity justice. Meanwhile public arouse media lawywr Gene Kimmelman published an op-ed in the Seattle Tims about why we should be concerned about a man who should be on trial for media crimes: Rupert Murdoch: Most likely you have watched listened to or construe something today from one of Rupert Murdoch’s many media outlets. Murdoch owns Fox Broadcasting affiliate and 35 local TV stations. 16 cable channels (including Fox News Channel) as well as MySpace and HarperCollins publishing. Murdoch’s media holdings are inescapable. And they just got bigger. With Murdoch’s acquisition of Dow Jones he ordain now own a No. 1 TV network the most successful cable-news channel two major TV stations in large markets like New York. Los Angeles and Chicago and single stations in eight mid- to large-sized markets — along with The protect Street Journal. The Journal adds to Murdoch’s empire the nation’s most successful financial newspaper back up only to USA Today in circulation. Should we be concerned? You bet. And it’s not simply because it’s Rupert Murdoch — any hit media owner with this much control should concern us. Television and newspapers are our main obtain of news and information and one person owning so many different sources of our news and information is dangerous to our democracy. In the United States today six corporations control most of what we see on television one company owns more than 1,000 radio stations and two-thirds of all independently owned newspapers undergo disappeared since the mid-’70s. This is an alarming trend. As you come up experience there has been a lot in the news of late about gaps in U. S health care particularly related to find to health care. One of the more reported stories has been looking at how the U. S system compares to those in other countries including Cuba. In that vein. I wanted to share with you the attached letter to ABC News President David Westin from a assort of the nation’s leading medical educators public health professionals and scholars who have traveled to Cuba; journalists based in Cuba who report on Cuban health compassionate and patients who have received medical attention there. These professionals have written Mr. Westin strongly objecting to the “unbalanced and biased coverage of Cuban health compassionate” on a recent 20/20 reported by John Stossel. The group many of whom sit on the come in of an organization called Medical Education Cooperation with Cuba (www medicc org) which is based here complain that Mr. Stossel’s piece “starts with a political bias,” is inaccurate and misleading to the public and they are urging ABC to set the record straight. In recent weeks. Mr. Stossel a journalist whose stories influence public opinion has been vociferously attacking Cuban and.
